Today Liz goes over important information and statistics email marketers should track in their campaigns.
Email Stats Part One
Sandro: [00:00:06] Welcome to 60 second marketing my name is Sandro Galindo I’m here with my partner in crime Liz Hersh. We are the podcasts that helps your small business navigate its way through the online marketing world and the time it takes to go through the automatic carwash. Today Liz is going to share with us. What do your email stats actually mean.
Liz: [00:00:25] So you’re using an email program like MailChimp or constant contact you’re sending emails and you’re collecting data. But what does it all mean. Today I’ll break down a few important stats. You should be tracking. And we have another episode coming up on this as well. So the first one I’ll mention is not the most important but I think it’s the one that’s front and center and it’s definitely a piece of data that you want to track. I’m obviously talking about the open rate. For me personally the open rate is an indication of how attention grabbing your subject line is. Open rates will vary drastically by industry and by individual subscriber list. Personally I always strive for an open rate of at least 20 percent some of our clients have open rates of over 30 percent which is fantastic. But again a lot of this is going to depend on the quality of your list and how you’ve built it and nurtured it over time.
Liz: [00:01:19] Next is the click through rate. I view this as the true indication of how engaged your subscriber list is and how compelling your message is. If you have a strong message and a good call to action you should be getting a strong click through rate. Now again this is going to vary by industry and where you’re at in your business if you’re new when you’re building your subscriber list I wouldn’t expect you to have a great click through rate but start looking at the data and track it and continually strive to improve that click through rate over time.
Liz: [00:01:53] And the final stat we have today is the unsubscribe rate. Now clients they can get worked up over this but don’t let it bother you if someone unsubscribed. Don’t take it personally. Just look at it as a natural way to be continually improving your subscriber list. I would rather have very engaged subscribers on my list. And if someone doesn’t want my email it is what it is. So just be aware of that unsubscribe rate but don’t let it get you down don’t spend too much time thinking about it. So those are the first three stats I wanted to chat about today. There will be much more in future episodes.
Sandro: [00:02:35] I have a question.
Liz: [00:02:36] Yes.
Sandro: [00:02:37] What do people click on when you mean click through.
Liz: [00:02:40] So it could be a button that you’ve built into the email or it could be a link in the email.
Sandro: [00:02:47] So it’s like buy something or to . . .
Liz: [00:02:49] Or to read more on the blog for example yes. Yes.
Sandro: [00:02:53] Great update. Thank you so much. That’s it for us today if you like to hear we love a review. We’re on Twitter Instagram and we have our very own Facebook group.
