Liz: [00:00:06] Hey there welcome back to 60 second marketing I’m Liz Hersh and I’m here with my co-host Sandro Galindo. We are the podcast that gives you digital marketing tips and tricks in the time it takes to enjoy your morning cup of tea. Today Sandro is going to be chatting about Facebook polls.
Sandro: [00:00:22] Thanks Liz something that’s been around for a while are Facebook polls. Now for some reason you can’t create a poll as a business on your business page or even one on your personal Facebook page for that matter. But one way you can use polls as a business and one that I just began testing out is on events. A few of my clients have a lot of events including movie screenings trivia nights wine tastings and speaking engagements. One of my clients is hosting a new documentary on the rock band The Avett Brothers. So a few weeks after creating the event on the Avett Brothers I went in and noticed the Create Poll button on the event page and listed six other popular songs as options and asked. What’s your favorite Avett Brothers song. To my surprise within an hour we had 40 responses. I also left the “allow anyone to add options” button clicked and people were adding their own song choices. My favorite added choice was not a song but instead set an all capital letters. What question mark exclamation point. “I have to pick a favorite” and surprisingly that option won the poll.
Sandro: [00:01:31] You can also create polls in groups and in Facebook Messenger app but neither can be done as a business or brand. It’s only currently available in events for businesses. There are quite a few third party options that will allow you to post on your business page but I haven’t explored them or their cost. So for now just a quick short tip.
Sandro: [00:01:49] If you use events for your small business it’s a good idea to go in maybe a week or two before the event and create a poll to create some buzz and reengage all the people who’ve marked some interest in your event. We’re seeing surprisingly high engagement with these polls.
Liz: [00:02:05] Something as simple as a poll and people love it. So get out there and test it. That wraps up today’s episode. Thanks for joining us.
