Local Ways to Promote Your Product

Liz: [00:00:06] Hey there welcome back to 60 second marketing I’m Liz Hirsch and I’m here with my co-host Sandro Galindo. We are the digital marketing podcast that offers tips and tricks in the time it takes to walk your dog. Today Sandro has some advice on local ways to promote your product.

Sandro: [00:00:21] Recently a friend published a small paperback book about ways to enjoy nature in the city. Year round she told me her target market was teachers and parents and was wondering how she could boost visibility of her book here in northeast Ohio and on a shoestring budget. I wrote a list of things she could do to promote her creation and wanted to share them here on the podcast. One of the first things I mentioned were Meetup groups. I’ve been using meetup dot com more and more recently and really enjoying it. I advised her to search for active Meetup groups for families and reach out to the admins with info on her book and maybe even give a few away for their next gathering. Next I mentioned the power of Facebook groups. With a quick search we found a half dozen groups on Facebook specifically aimed at parents and families looking for things to do this summer here in northeast Ohio. I advised her to join the groups and promote her book there. Another avenue I advised was to pursue bloggers. The blogging community here in Cleveland mainly focuses on our restaurants but there are some mommy bloggers here and some of those foodie bloggers are moms too. I told her she could send some copies their way including one for the blogger to keep and one to give away to a follower of theirs. Finally I advised her to write a press release or have someone create one for her and send it out to all the TV and radio morning shows and local news outlets. Moms are a big chunk of the audience for these shows and they’re always looking for ways to help their audience.

Sandro: [00:01:50] There were a few other bits of advice I gave her and that are a little more hyper local but overall I think if you’ve got one great product and you know your audience these are a few solid ways to self-promote when you don’t have a lot of money to start.

Liz: [00:02:04] I love these tips. I know a lot of people want to go after that New York Times bestseller list and you have to have a lot of funds in order to do that.
