Snap Maps

Sandro: [00:00:05] Welcome to 60 Second Marketing. My name is Sandro Galindo and I’m here with my co-host Liz Hersh. We are the podcast that helps your small business grow through social media, SEO, reputation management and so much more in the time it takes to link your phone to your Bluetooth speaker. Today Liz is talking Snap maps.

Liz: [00:00:22] Last week Snapchat rolled out a new feature called SNAP map. This is their effort to take location data to the next level. It allows you to share your current location to your friends via a map. Now for those of you keeping track this is similar to Apple’s find my friends & Facebook’s live location feature. The good news is that for those of you who are very privacy conscious this feature is not automatically enabled. You have the option to share your location with all or some of your friends and you can also switch to ghost mode if you don’t want everyone to know where you are. The map also displays what are called hot spots. These are different points on the map where people are snapping. So for example I can watch a bunch of snaps from people at the zoo or people at the Indians game here in downtown Cleveland. When I first heard about this I was super excited because I thought this was going to be a great way to find new people to follow on Snapchat. The downside is that you can’t see who’s snapping. So I can see the snaps from the Cleveland Indians game but I don’t know who they are from. So that was a little bit of a disappointment.

Liz: [00:01:32] Sandro and I were chatting about Snap map and how this may apply to business owners and there’s nothing obvious coming down the pipeline just yet. But again we always like to remind you to keep tabs on what your potential customers or current customers are doing. Understand how they are using these social tools because you never know. You may be able to purchase hotspots down the road.

Liz: [00:01:58] We were looking at the map and businesses are displayed on the maps so who knows where this will go. Again nothing major for businesses yet but this is a good thing to keep up on as you’re exploring social media and these different social channels.
