Tips to Customize Your Message On Instagram
Sandro: [00:00:05] Welcome to 60 Second Marketing. My name is Sandro Galindo I’m here with my co-host Liz Hersh.
Sandro: [00:00:10] Together we are the podcast that helps your small business grow through digital marketing and things like your social media, SEO, reputation management and so much more all the time it takes to squeeze your morning orange juice. Today Liz is giving us tips to customize your message on Instagram.
Liz: [00:00:27] Depending on your business and who you’re trying to reach you’ll likely need to maintain more than one social channel for your business and these social channels evolve and add new features. So you need to be very mindful of how you communicate on the different platforms. Content that works well on one platform may not be the best for another. So with this idea we’re creating a new series for you all about how to customize your message for each social platform. We’re going to kick things off with Instagram. So Instagram is all about the visual whether it be a picture or a video. Don’t simply say that you’re enjoying your morning cup of coffee or working on a new promotion for your subscriber list. You need to get creative and communicate that visually. I also find Instagram to be one of the most inspirational and uplifting of the social platforms. I mean sure. Yes there are trolls and spammers on this platform but it’s nothing like Twitter so be inspirational and inspire your followers to take some kind of action. I think that’s really important. On Instagram you actually have space for 2,200 characters. But keep in mind that it’s the first three lines of text that are displayed in someone’s feed and then the message is truncated with an ellipsis. Make sure that the most attention grabbing part of your message is in the first three lines but I will also say at the same time don’t be afraid to go into some detail and use that. 2,200 characters because if you’re telling a compelling story I think people will read your posts.
Liz: [00:02:04] I also recommend that you use a lot of hashtags. One article that Sandro and I read said that a minimum of 13 hashtags was ideal but again experiment and see what works for you. I mean this is all going to be a big test every every account’s following is a little different. These are some guidelines for you to help really make sure that you are serving the best message possible on Instagram.
Sandro: [00:02:31] The power of Instagram is undoubtable. It just keeps growing and growing and I keep going between Instagram and Twitter on which I like more.
Liz: [00:02:39] I’m still all in on Instagram.
